Editing
I want to make you look good,
and am a firm believer that great editing keeps the writer's voice and
content intact, while enhancing the body of the manuscript. I
provide a free consultation for all clients, which includes an
assessment of the scope of the project, desired timeline, and a
written estimate - either an hourly fee or project fee, depending
on the nature of the job. Once I accept a new project, I edit a
manuscript (fiction or nonfiction) according to the following
guidelines:
*Is there a beginning, middle, and end to the manuscript, and is there a logical progression to the paragraphs which helps ensure the integrity of the text?
*Is the beginning really the beginning? Sometimes it takes us a while to get started, and the true beginning of the article or story is actually page 2 or 3.
*Are there cliches or mixed metaphors in the writing? I will mark these and suggestions alternative text to help you make your point.
*Does text need to be deleted, rearranged, added to, or clarified?
*Does the manuscript need to be "taken up a notch?" You only have one chance to make a first impression, and if your writing suffers from the blahs, no one will remember it. I will help you pump up the volume so your text is dynamic, clean, and fresh.
*Are you happy? I work with clients to make sure they are happy with what I have done. As needed, I am happy to explain any editing I have done, and walk you through the process so you are pleased with the end result.
Proofreading
I have an eagle eye
when it comes to proofreading, and will carefully check your manuscript
for grammar, spelling, and punctuation errors, as well as subject-verb
agreement, parallel construction, and more. I can provide you
with the confidence you need to send that final draft out for
publicationl. You will never have
to fear that dreaded typo again!
